Ooredoo has extended congratulations to its brand ambassador Nasser Al-Attiyah today as he won his second Dakar Rally on Saturday.

The Qatari hero, who also won the Rally in 2011, secured his second career Dakar title following his win in Thursday’s Stage 11 from Salta to Termas de Rio Hondo, Argentina, and his successful performance in Buenos Aires on Saturday. For Al-Attiyah's Mini team, his performance meant a fourth successive Dakar title.

Nasser Al-Attiyah becomes only the seventh driver in history to win the title more than once, joining Jean-Louis Schlesser, Hiroshi Masuoka, René Metge, Jean-Paul Cottret, Ari Vatanen, and Stéphane Peterhansel on the roll-call of honour. The sporting hero finished ahead of his competitors by a comfortable distance in 2015, winning five stages and finishing the race ahead of his direct competitors.

After the success of the race Ooredoo aims to release a new series of posters and advertisements with Al-Attiyah, highlighting the driver’s place as the face of Ooredoo 4G and 4G+, delivered on Ooredoo’s bigger, faster network.

Nasser Al-Attiyah said: “This victory is for Qatar, for my supporters and for the whole community. Our nation is moving forward quickly, celebrating speed and development, while retaining our connection with our culture and heritage. I thank Ooredoo for their on-going support, and for providing people with the speed and connectivity they need.”

Fatima Sultan Al Kuwari, Director Community & Public Relations, Ooredoo, said: “We congratulate Nasser Al-Attiyah on his success in the Dakar Rally. Ooredoo believes in good sportsmanship and excellence, which is why we have supported Nasser across a diverse range of sports in recent years. As a world champion, he is the ideal representative of our world-class 4G and 4G+ services.”

In an illustrious career, Nasser Al-Attiyah was the 2006 Production World Rally Champion, an eight-time Middle East Rally Champion and the 2011 Dakar Rally winner.

He came 2nd and 3rd in the Dakkar Rallies in 2010 and 2014 respectively. He currently competes in the World and Middle East Rally Championships for the Qatar World Rally Team. In shooting, Al-Attiyah won the bronze medal in the men's skeet event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Ooredoo’s sponsorship of Nasser Al-Attiyah is a part of several initiatives the company has undertaken to encourage sports education and inspire more young people to take up a sport of their own.

Ooredoo is a major supporter of sport across all levels – grass-root, national and international. To read more about Ooredoo’s involvement in sports, or to view Ooredoo’s Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy, visit www.ooredoo.qa.
