Preparations have begun for the annual Ooredoo Marathon which will take place this Friday at the Museum of Islamic Art.

This is the fifth edition of the event and with almost 1,650 registered to take part, Ooredoo is working hard to ensure all safety measure are met, as well as entertainment in place for the community.

The first race will start from the Museum of Islamic Art Park at 6:30am, with full marathon runners taking a course that runs along the Corniche and back again.

To ensure the safety of all runners and spectators, the Corniche road, will be closed from 6.30am – 11.30am to accommodate the races.

As well as refreshment stations for the runners along each route, Ooredoo will provide a communal warm-up session 15 minutes before each race begins to ensure that runners are sufficiently ready to run.

Fatima Sultan Al Kuwari, Director of Community & Public Relations, Ooredoo Qatar, said: “This is a community event and even if you are not taking part I encourage you all to come along and cheer on the runners. A marathon takes months to train for and Friday is the day all the hard work pays off and hopefully our competitors are healthier and fitter than ever before. Everyone is welcome to come and join in the warm up sessions and we will be announcing the winners at 10.30am”

Marathon spectators are requested to stand at the Corniche walkway at the Museum of Islamic Art or at the many checkpoints lining the Corniche to get an unobstructed view.

Cash prizes will be given to the best runners in a range of categories, based on age and gender.
