Y Magazine reported that the Sultanate of Oman doesn't have enough time to prepare for hosting World Cup 2022 matches, according to a CNN report that quoted Yosuf bin Alawi, Oman’s Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs
"We’ve been asked about it many times and our answer was: we are not ready, we are not ready,” Bin Alawi said in response to CNN’s reporter when questioned about the Sultanate’s readiness to host the world’s most-watched sporting event.
He added that Qatar has been granted the right to host this tournament and that “it must stay there.”
“If we can invest in this big event in the future, why not? We will be happy to host it,” Bin Alawi clarified.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said he’s pushing plans to increase the number of teams participating in the World Cup 2022 to 48 instead of 32.
To share the load, FIFA has raised the idea to hold some of the matches in Oman and Kuwait.
