Qatari champion Nasser Al Attiyah, the holder of the Dakar International Rally title, is set to start on Sunday his quest to defend his title, for the fourth time in his career and the second consecutive time during the 2020 season, in the 42nd edition of the Dakar International Rally, which will be held for the first time in the Middle East in Saudi Arabia.

Al Attiyah continues his preparations to participate in the rally, as his cars will go through technical inspection on Saturday. The contestants were briefed on the instructions, stages and procedures to be followed during the competition, which is expected to witness great excitement.

During the Dakar International Rally competitions this year, Al Attiyah will be wearing a new helmet with 3 stars and the dates of the three victories he made in Dakar in 2011, 2015 and 2019, as well as carrying land and sea landmarks in Qatar and a picture of mosques and the history of parents and grandparents for camels.

Nasser Al Attiyah said he expects the Dakar Rally to witness multiple surprises this year because the race track is new for all drivers, pointing out that his first goal in participation is to defend the title, and that he is fully prepared to achieve this.

Al Attiyah, along with navigator Mathieu Baumel will compete against a lineup of rally stars including his Toyota Gazoo Racing teammates Giniel de Villiers and Fernando Alonso as well as Saudi Yazed Al Rajehi.
