Huge success for first edition of Saturday Night Showdown, by CrossFit ERADA

The first edition of Saturday Night Showdown, organized by CrossFit ERADA, a CrossFit affiliate founded by Qatari nationals in Qatar, accomplished huge success with the participation of champions from around the world competed with Qatar CrossFit athletes.

The second edition is set to take place on the 19th December, whereas the day of registration will be announced later on CrossFit ERADA Instagram account.

The first Saturday Night Showdown took place on November 14, 2015 on the multi-purpose courts of The Sheraton Doha Resort and Convention Hotel, with the support of the ministry of Youth and Sports. Ten Qatari athletes, including the youngest of 16 years old, participated in the competition and had the support of the crowds in exciting atmosphere. The event is one of an exciting new series of fitness competitions in the booming Gulf state that focuses on the fitness, endurance and concentration of the player.

Abdulla Al-Matwi, one of the founders of CrossFit ERADA, said: “The first edition of Saturday Night Showdown accomplished huge success and good feedback from the players and community. It is a first step to spread this sports among the youth. We are pleased with the participation of such a big number including Qataris, and we call all to be part of the second edition that will take place on 19th December”.

“It is not just a physical show, but also a drive for competition and challenge. It is a good platform to promote sports, healthy lifestyle and self-confidence”.

Sixty athletes, male and female, participated in the showdown, at which every participant performed customized consecutive exercises and weightlifting. Each player had a dedicated judge who granted points on their performance. The players are divided into two sections: scaled for beginners and RX for more experienced athletes.

The top three winners in male RX are Lance Castle, Mikko Aronpaa and Justin Ahrens and in male Scaled are Francesco Cerri, Hany Bassiouny and Alessio Galli. In the female RX section, Emilia laeppanen won the first place where Steph Chung and Nuha Almarri came in the second and third places respectively.

In the female Scaled section, the top three are Aeolyn Gwynne, Kym Ali and Julie le Luyer.

The winners were awarded cash prizes and gift vouchers from Sports Corner and gift items from Hundler Qatar. Saturday Night Showdown is also sponsored by Hundlur, Again Faster; Xendurance Supplements and Quest Nutrition.

The Saturday Night Showdown is CrossFit ERADA initiative. The club was founded in January, 2015, by a group of young Qataris, and has succeeded in a short time to attract many players and promote the sport among youth.

The exciting sport pushes players to unleash their potential and push the limits of their abilities. It is an integration of soul, mind and body that creates the required balance of skills to accomplish great results.
