Al Shahaniya reached the fourth round of H.H. the Amir Cup, after winning 4-1 against Al Markhiya. The win sets up a meeting with Al Duhail. Al Markhiya actually opened the scoring in the 17th minute. But they could only hold on to the lead for 10 minutes, and it was another 10 minutes after that that they went behind. In the second half, a two-minute blitz saw Al Shahaniya virtually end the match. Eight different clubs had won HH the Amir Cup in the past. Al Sadd is the competition's most decorated club, having won the competition 16 times. The current holders are Al Duhail, who defeated Al Rayyan 2-1 in last year's final.
Al Shahaniya was founded on 27 December 1998, under the name Al-Nasr, under the decision Sheikh Mohammed Bin Eid Al Thani, who was then the chairman of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports at that time. At the beginning of its establishment, the club’s headquarters were located in Al Jamilla, Doha. In 2001, the club relocated to Al Shahaniya, which is approximately 20 km northwest of Doha, under the decision of Sheikh Jassim bin Thamer al Thani, who was vice president of the Qatar Olympic Committee at that time. The club changed its name to Al-Shahaniya in 2004 by the board of directors, in order to better represent the region in where it is based.
