With a large number of interested teams having signed up for the Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) Ramadan Sports Festival (RSF) within record time, registration for several tournaments within the festival has come to a close ahead of the deadline.

RSF, which is taking place from 5-19 Ramadan (June 10-24) at Aspire Zone, is an annual sport and fitness festival that coincides with the Holy Month of Ramadan which sees thousands of members from the local community participate in sports tournaments across Aspire Zone’s world class sporting facilities.

Commenting on the preparations for RSF, Mr. Abdullah Aman Al Khater, Chairman of the Ramadan Organising Committee at AZF said:

“Our preparations for RSF are moving full steam ahead, and the community’s widespread excitement towards the festival – demonstrated by the closing of registration in a number of tournaments – gives us the added incentive to present the best festival ever. The RSF is a unique opportunity for members of the local community to be active during the Holy Month of Ramadan, and contributes towards AZF’s efforts to promote a sports culture amongst members of the local community, encouraging them to adopt fit and healthy lifestyles year-round. Registration for a few individual sportstournaments such as Ladies Tennis and Remote-Controlled Car Racing is still ongoing, and we would like to take up this opportunity to encourage enthusiasts in these sports to register and join us during the Holy Month, bearing in mind that registration closes at the end of May”.

Registration in individual sports tournaments continues until the end of the Month

The football, basketball and cricket tournaments received widespread excitement, reaching full capacity in record time. Based upon this, the RSF Organising Committee decided to keep the registration door for events such as Ladies Tennis and Remote-Controlled Car Racing open longer, giving a larger number of enthusiasts the opportunity to be a part of the RSF.

The Ladies Tennis tournament will take place over the course of three days in Aspire Zone’s outdoor tennis courts, and will be split into two categories including adult females (18 years and up) and junior females (14-17 years old). The tournament offers female tennis enthusiasts the opportunity to practice their favourite sport during the Holy Month in a joyous and competitive atmosphere.

AZF has also dedicated a full day to the Remote-Controlled Car Racing tournament, which is open to members of the community between ages 10-17 years old. The tournament returns to AZF’s RSF programme of activities following its inclusion in the 2014 edition of RSF.

Football will take place over eight days, while basketball will run for five

The football tournament will take place over eight days in the Aspire Zone Warm-Up Track, where 12 teams with 15 players per team will compete across four groups, with the first place winner from each group qualifying to the final rounds of competition. Matches will run over 60 minutes, with two halves per match and a 10-minute break in between.

In the meantime, 12 teams with eight players per team will compete in the basketball tournament, which is running in Aspire Dome over the course of five days.

Cricket tournament for the first time at the warm up track

For each annual RSF, AZF introduces new tournaments as part of its efforts to accommodate as many members of the community as possible, catering for varying interests.

The success of the past four editions of the RSF has driven the Foundation to grow the number and type of offered activities, which now includes cricket.

The newly introduced cricket tournament will be held for two days at Aspire Zone’s Warm-Up Track. The cap of seven competing teams also reached capacity in record time.

RSF Organising Committee to hold a technical meeting with participating teams

In preparation for the RSF, the Organising Committee will hold several technical meetings in the coming weeks with participating teams and administrators. The objective of these meetings is to inform all participants of the technical and playing rules of the competitions and to answer any questions. There will also be a draw for each tournament to determine the final schedule of matches and groups.

The RSF is an example of the year-round programme of activities hosted by AZF at its world-class facilities that cater to all members of the community. This programme of activities has helped transform AZF into a preferred destination for members of the community to practice sports and participate in cultural activities.
