The event is an obstacle course race that returns to Qatar for the second consecutive year and which is organised in partnership with ‘Diverse’ – a Qatari business that specialises in sports events management. The Race itself will be held from the 23-24 March in Aspire Park.

The press conference will feature senior members of AZF, Qatar’s Olympic Champion and IAAF Athlete of the Year, Mutaz Barshim, and renowned local presenter, Mohammed Saadoun Al Kuwari among others.

The first ‘Esrar’ Race (‘Esrar’ means ‘determination’ in Arabic) was held in March last year and involved more than 250 local and regional professional and amateur sports enthusiasts, of whom 125 were Qatari. After the huge success of last year’s event, AZF expects this year’s edition to attract an even greater number of participants from Qatar and the region.

The Esrar Race 2018 is the only obstacle course race held in Qatar. It is open to sports enthusiasts, athletes and non-athletes, men and women aged 18 years and above. Through events like this, AZF aims to encourage community members to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle in line with its mission.

Commenting on the return of the race, Mr. Nasser Abdullah Al Hajri, Director of PR and Communication at AZF, said: “Since opening registration last February, we have received many entries and requests from regional sports enthusiasts looking to take part in this year’s race. At AZF, we took these into consideration, as well as other feedback compiled from surveys conducted after last year’s race, The result is that we decided to bring back it back this year but to make it even bigger and better than ever, and provide boundary-pushing sports lovers with a unique and thrilling experience.”

The race consists of obstacles including the commando crawl, tyre split steps, a 6-foot wall and 8-foot wall and inverted wall climbing, balance beam, sand bang carrying, a vertical cargo net and monkey bars.

By following the race course, participants will also be able to explore Aspire Zone itself, which hosts numerous global and local sporting events throughout the year thanks to its world-class indoor halls and outdoor facilities which are overseen and managed by a team of high-calibre event management professionals.
