One week to go until Qatar National Sport Day

The 2014 Dolphin Energy Doha Dash is gearing up to welcome thousands of runners, along with their families and supporters to the Losail International Circuit in celebration of Qatar National Sport Day, February 11th 2014.

Building on last year’s success and outstanding response from Qatar’s citizens and residents, this year’s event will welcome even more participants across all main events, including the 5km & 3km races, the 1km Mini Doha Dash for children and the 1km ladies’ walk.

The Doha Dash is supported by a number of Qatar businesses including title sponsor Dolphin Energy, alongside Vodafone Qatar; DHL Express; W Doha Hotel & Residences and Doha Stadium Plus.

Adel Albuainain, General Manager, Dolphin Energy, said; We are planning an amazing sporting program and fun activities to create an energetic day out for families attending the event.

“Our activities will focus on exercise and well-being to help raise awareness about the importance of healthy living and maintaining regular exercise in people’s day to day life.

“The program will include training and exercise routines as well as pre and post workout routines, a speed running ‘bleep’ test; as well as an interactive floor activity area. There will be plenty of information about maintaining physical activity and we are offering a Passport for Fitness Program, developed especially for this event. A sports massage area and a juice and healthy food bar will also be on offer for all to enjoy.”

Vodafone Qatar will be challenging participants and spectators to test their skills in their pit-garage with a speed shot radar challenge and a reaction test, while the DHL Express Recovery lounge will offer everyone a place to relax and unwind after their event. In addition, warm-ups will be performed before each race by professional fitness instructors from Fitness First at the City Center Mall to ensure all participants are well prepared for their events.

Kyle Whitehill, CEO, Vodafone Qatar, said: “The Doha Dash is a great event for bringing together the Qatar community – it’s not just a day for the runners, there is something for everyone to take part in and enjoy the celebration of Qatar’s National Sport Day.”

Jamie Cunningham, CEO and founder of the event organisers, Professional Sports Group, added: “Following the huge success of last year’s Dash, which welcomed more than 1,300 runners, we are delighted to be hosting the Doha Dash again. We’ve seen an increase of over 50% in registrations year-on-year to date, with still a few days to go until registration closes. The event has quickly established itself as a firm favourite in the Doha calendar, promoting a healthy lifestyle for Qatar’s citizens and residents, which is only further reinforced by the commitment shown by our sponsors throughout the lead up to and during the event.”

The event, which is supporting The Shafallah Center for Children with Special Needs by allocating 25% of the entry fee to the charity, will open at 7.00am where runners can collect their rack-packs including bib-number and exclusive Dolphin Energy Doha Dash t-shirt. The first race will start at 9.00am where runners in the 3km race will first set off around the track.

Every participant who crosses the finish line will receive a medal and there will be trophies presented for first, second and third place in the 5km, 3km and 1km Mini Doha Dash.

A post-race breakfast will also be provided to all participants, courtesy of the official hotel partner, W Doha Hotel & Residences.
