With the IAAF Evaluation Committee here in Doha on a two-day visit to assess Qatar’s ability to host the 2019 IAAF World Championships, “I Love Qatar” was invited to attend an informal Media “Meet and Greet” at the Intercontinental Doha The City hotel on the evening of Thursday, 30 October.
In attendance was the President of the Qatar Athletics Federation, Dahlan Al Hamad and 3 Doha 2019 Ambassadors; Mutaz Barshim, Qatar’s top athlete and High Jump Bronze Medalist at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Sergey Shubenhov, winner of a bronze medal in Hurdles at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow and the first Russian male ever to win a medal at any World Championships and Mariam Farid, a 16 year old 400m and 400m Hurdles rising star in Qatar athletics and member of the Qatar National Track and Field Team. Mariam has won team silver medals at both the West Asian Championships and the GCC Championships and is looking forward to representing Qatar in the 2019 World Championships.
The event was a chance for the media to meet the President and Ambassadors in person and ask them any questions regarding Doha’s bid for the 2019 IAAF World Championships and their involvement in it. The official Press Conference took place today, Friday 31 October at the Qatar Olympic Committee Headquarters here in Doha.
