RLIC-COP is a grassroots level initiative by Ras Laffan Industrial City’s seven major petrochemicals companies to connect with the Northern Communities of Qatar. It is a joint effort between industry and the communities to better understand each other and work together towards common goals. Inspired by the Qatar National Vision the Outreach Programme’s highest aspiration is to help all people of Qatar unlock their full potential.
Quote from Ras Laffan Community out Reach Program (RLIC-COP) representative Moza Al Mohannadi: “The National Sport Day gives the opportunity to Ras Laffan Community Outreach Program (COP) to interact with the inhabitants of different northern areas in Qatar. Also, it aims to enhance exercising among both nationals and residents; the matter which motivates a competitive spirit and creates new healthy lifestyles among the community members.”
“Celebrating and sponsoring the activities of the National Sport Day embody the goals of COP. Also, the event is considered a great opportunity to highlight the vital role played by the program in the region to support memorable occasions and attract the largest number of community members. This contributes to enhancing community values and the support of the program's partners in energy and industry sector, achieving the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.”
The establishment of the Community Outreach Programme was originally facilitated by Ali Bin Hassan Al Mohanadi, the municipal town leader of Al Thakira as well as Sheikh Khalid, previous director of Ras Laffan Industrial City. Together the two pioneers went about exploring ways to bring the benefits of the flourishing Ras Laffan Industrial City in order to bring change and progress to the people of the Northern Communities.
The process began with civic leaders as well as prominent members of industry meeting to discuss community issues and seek out collaborative solutions before Sheikh Khalid received approval to open a new and publicly accessible office in Al Khor which would function as a vital link between the people and the companies. Over time, this initiative grew to become the Community Outreach Programme as it stands today.
