ASTAD Project Management, Qatar’s leading project management consultancy for building and infrastructure, joined Qatar Olympic Committee in launching the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena, formerly the Al Sadd Multipurpose Hall, one of the main venues that will host the 24th Men’s Handball World Championship in January 2015. This impressive arena is one of two main venues that will host the championship, the other being the Lusail Multipurpose Hall, which ASTAD Project Management is also managing for Qatar Olympic Committee.

The Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena is an Olympic-standard multipurpose hall capable of hosting a variety of sporting events including handball, basketball, volleyball, hockey, badminton, gymnastics and ice skating. The hall is fully compliant with the local and international federation standards governing all of these sports. Furthermore, it is equipped with all the latest technology to truly make it a state of the art sustainable facility.

The arena’s multilevel stadium is capable of seating 7,500 spectators, 500 VIPs and VVIPs, and ample room for media with dedicated media and broadcasting facilities including two TV studios and several commentator booths. Additionally, the arena has a unique VVIP section, a dedicated VIP floor with 24 VIP boxes, high end restaurants, gift shops and many coffee shops.

ASTAD has been involved in the project from the beginning and has overseen the design of all associated infrastructure. Construction of the arena began in October 2012 marking its completion a true testament to ASTAD’s expertise and the commitment they dedicate to their projects for having completed it within such a short timeframe.

Commenting on this occasion, ASTAD Chief Executive Officer Ali Bin Nasser Al-Khalifa said: “We were honored when we were selected to manage this project and contribute to the development of the State of Qatar sports infrastructure. Today marks a proud day to celebrate in the achievement of not just ASTAD and Qatar Olympic Committee, but an achievement for Qatar and our community as we continue to make our mark in international sports with world class buildings, facilities and infrastructure.”

ASTAD won two awards for its delivery of the Al Sadd Multipurpose Hall, now called the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena, at the Construction Week Qatar Awards held in September of this year. The Commercial Project of the Year is awarded to the project that demonstrates construction best practice and showcases how construction techniques and technology have contributed to the project’s success. The second award was Sustainable Project of the Year which celebrates projects that contribute significantly to sustainable development.

ASTAD has built an impressive portfolio over the years with projects spanning across multiple sectors such as sports, health, science and research, hospitality, commercial, and education. Attracting the most talented professionals in the industry, ASTAD Project Management is continuing on its mission to deliver iconic complex developments within the State of Qatar.
