– Aspire Zone is once again pledging its unwavering support to Earth Hour as part of its ongoing committed to being environmentally conscious and going green. Earth Hour will take place this Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 8:30 PM – 9:30 PM and Aspire Zone will be supporting the movement in a number of ways, including switching off all non-essential lights throughout the hour.
Aspire Zone’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond Earth Hour, by ensuring that lighting schedules are reviewed regularly to reduce unnecessary energy use. And Aspire Zone has also installed systems that are automated to reduce the amount of resources required to operate lighting, air conditions and irrigation.
In addition, Aspire Zone has organised glow in the dark cycling during Earth Hour. The event which is open to all members of the community is free to enter and all participants will receive a Glow-In-The Dark kit. Enthusiastic riders should meet at Cycle Hire HQ at 8:00 PM where they will receive a ‘Free Hire Bicycle’ along with their own bike and night glow items, in what is shaping up to be a unique, eco-friendly exercise driven experience.
Earth Hour, the world’s largest grass roots environmental event, started in 2007 as a lights-off event to help raise awareness about climate change, and has now grown to engage more than 162 countries and territories worldwide.
Aspire Zone is expecting to save enough energy to power 230 homes during Earth Hour. It also has taken this one step further, and encouraged staff to use energy saving LED bulbs, to refuse plastic bags and make the switch to re-usable bags and to turn off their computers before they leave the office.
Aspire Zone is dedicated to organising events that promote a healthy lifestyle and that encourage the community to be active, just as Aspire Zone is committed to getting behind initiatives, such as Earth Hour, that are environmentally conscious and encourage members of the local community to think green. Previously, Aspire Zone demonstrated the power that humans have to produce energy when on the eve of National Sports Day 2014, a group of top Qatari athletes and senior public officials used the power of cycling to light up the Torch Hotel, Doha. Both sportsmen and officials pedaled 50 stationary
bikes for just over 30 minutes, and generated enough electricity to bring The Torch to life and illuminate Doha’s night sky.
