Al-Duhail Sports Club and Qatar international forward, Almoez Ali, apologized to Al Ahly Sports Club supporters following his comments after their game against the Red Devils. Al-Duhail SC suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Al Ahly in the second round of the FIFA Club World Cup 2020, missing on the opportunity to qualify to the semi-finals.

During a post-match interview, Almoez said that they overestimated Al Ahly, which led to their defeat. The 24-year-old athlete was heavily criticized for these comments by a number of former Reds players and fans for allegedly disrespecting the club and its history. The former Cultural Leonesa man apologized for his comments, saying that he was misunderstood. “My statement was misunderstood, I wasn’t talking about Al Ahly’s entity or its fans but about the game itself. I apologize to you,” said Almoez.

Almoez led the Qatari champions to a fifth place finish after scoring a brace in their 3-1 win over South Korean side ULSAN Hyundai FC. Meanwhile, Al Ahly will now face European champions Bayern Munich on Monday evening in the semi-finals. With the winner set to face Mexico’s Tigres in the final.
