Football, known throughout the world as the "beautiful game," is a sport that brings out the best in people. And there are some people who take their love to an extended level.
Lots of viral moments could be staged during a football match and just recently, one moment seemed to have stood out above the rest at the ongoing Asian Cup 2019 in the UAE.
A Korean woman went viral on Twitter after she expressed her love for Qatar by donning the iconic maroon and white national flag. She was captured showing her support with the country's name strapped around her body from the stands of the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in the UAE city of Al Ain.
But the blockading nation of Saudi Arabia weren't convinced of the Asian lady's move.
In a series of tweets, the Saudis made fun of her by saying that she doesn't look Qatari at all, that she was paid to wear the Qatari flag, and they even called her an "import from the Chinese market."
She doesn’t look Qatari, she looks like East Asian and paid to do that or she might be a neutralized Qatari
Hahaha! Her features say that she is from Salwa Island
Egyptian media falsely reported The Amir is giving Qatari passports to Asians to support Qatari National Team during AFC.
Her name's Merry Lee and she debuted as an emcee in South Korea way back in 1994 and also became an actress and stopped in year 2011 due to health issues. Her deceased father worked in the construction industry in the Arab world for seven years in the 1970s.
Merry Lee developed her love for Qatar since the moment she got to know about the country’s beautiful culture and people.
She became proud of Qatar as it’s going to be the first country in the Gulf region to host the FIFA World Cup. To wish success for the upcoming sports event, Merry Lee organised a mini concert in South Korea under her own funding in 2014. She also went to China in 2016 and AFC Qatar 2017 to support the Qatar national football team.
The AFC Asian Games 2019 is still ongoing until the 1st of February. For more updates regarding Team Qatar's standing in the games, keep a close eye on our website as we'll be bringing you fresh news from time to time.
