Asian champions Qatar take on Iraq in the opening match of the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup on Tuesday and right-winger Ismail Mohamed says a good start would put them in a strong position for the rest of the tournament.

"We, as Asian champions, have a quality group of players. Our goal is to do well in every competition," Al Duhail SC winger Ismail said at a team training session.

Qatar have not been at their fluent best in the recent World Cup qualifiers but Ismail was confident it would be a different story in the Arabian Gulf Cup.

"We have not been at our best but I am confident we will be a completely different side in the Gulf Cup and we will be a strong contender for the title," the Duhail winger added.
