WISH delegation at SPIEF 2021: focus on healthy society

At Doha Hall pavilion, as part of Qatar’s participation as guest country at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, an expert community will discuss issues of growth, accessibility and quality of primary health care, infectious diseases intervention and medical rehabilitation development.

The World Innovation Summit for Health, or WISH, is an initiative of Qatar Foundation that brings together a global community to collect and distribute the best evidence-based ideas and practices in healthcare. WISH holds an event in Doha every two years to showcase health innovation from around the world and to explore how to find solutions to some of the most pressing global health issues.

Sultana Afdhal, WISH CEO, said:

“The pandemic that has caused so much damage over the past year and has clearly highlighted the importance of an increased focus on tackling global health challenges, whether from the perspective of individual suffering, the perspective of an overloaded healthcare sector or from the wider societal and economic perspective. Global health isn’t a niche area; it needs to be at the heart of all government policies. Climate change is high on the global agenda, and the effect of climate change on health cannot be underestimated. With temperature increases, we will see large parts of the world struggle to get access to clean water, habitats that produce much of the world’s medications will be under threat and diseases will spread to expanded geographic areas. With this in mind, WISH has established expert groups who are now working to both highlight issues that are not yet capturing enough attention and to look for ways to not just point out problems but to offer viable solutions.”

A panel “Innovations and entrepreneurship: global healthcare opportunities”, which is to take place on 2 June, 2021, will feature participants who will discuss how COVID-19 altered the healthcare system, how to ensure sufficient financing for the growing need of medical innovations and will try to define new trends and perspectives of HealthTech & MedTech development: telemedicine, biotechnology, artificial intelligence and big data in active service with digital healthcare.

Qatar will participate in SPIEF 2021 as a guest country. At the forum, the Qatar pavilion, presenting to the fullest economic potential of the Middle Eastern country, will be set out.
