Sidra Medicine to host second Conference on Diabetes, Obesity, Cardiovascular Diseases and Strokes

Sidra Medicine will be hosting its second annual conference on understanding molecular mechanisms in cardiovascular biology, diabetes, obesity and strokes – CUDOS 2018 from 22 to 24 September 2018 at the Qatar National Convention Centre.

The theme for this year’s conference “Childhood Diabetes: from Novel Discoveries to Clinical Practice” will focus on the current research innovation in diabetes technologies for mothers and children with or at risk of childhood diabetes.

Dr. Ammira-Sarah Akil, Sidra Medicine Staff Scientist and CUDOS 2018 Conference Chairperson and Organizer said: “As Qatar continues to map out the implementation of its national health strategy, our joint collaboration with international and local health and research experts is a key stepping stone towards ensuring that research is translated into practice. Our approach with CUDOS 2018, is to focus on knowledge and information sharing that will advance the development of new treatment methodologies and technologies to cure childhood obesity and other complications for patients in Qatar and beyond.”

Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham, the Vice Chair of Sidra Medicine and Sheikh Dr. Mohamed Bin Hamad Bin J. Al-Thani, the Director of Public Health at the Ministry of Public Health will be key speakers at the event, in addition to local experts from Sidra Medicine, Hamad Medical Corporation, Weill-Cornell Medicine and Qatar Diabetes Association.

International speakers include Professor Joseph Wolfsdorf, President, International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes “ISPAD”, and the director of diabetes program at Boston Children Hospital; Professor Jenny Couper, Women’s and Children’s hospital, University of Adelaide, Australia; Professor Deborah Christie, University College London Hospital, UK; Professor Anders L. Carlson, International Diabetes Center and Park Nicollet Health Services, USA; Dr. Aaron Kowalski, Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund International, USA and Professor Torben Hansen, Novo Nordisk Foundation Centre, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The comprehensive programming of the scientific sessions at CUDOS 2018 will provide cutting-edge education and information for all members of the diabetes community including physicians; scientists; nurses; nurse practitioners; dietitians; pharmacists; psychologists and other healthcare professionals. Attendance to the event will be an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Category 1) as defined by the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners-Accreditation Department and is approved for a maximum of (23.5) hours.

Twelve Qatari researchers will also be showcasing their oral and poster presentations during the “Young Qatari investigators in medical sciences” sessions. The deadline for abstract submissions for both oral and poster presentations is 10 September 2018.
