The Ministry of Public Health is implementing a program to build and develop the capacities of breastfeeding counselors in the State of Qatar.

A training course for trainers working in the preparation of breastfeeding counselors is being organized in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) with the participation of representatives from public and private hospitals and associations concerned with mother and child affairs.

The five-day course, begins on Sunday , is part of the Ministry of Public Health's keenness to implement practices that protect, promote and support exclusive breastfeeding from birth to six months of age and continue breastfeeding for two years with the introduction of home-grown supplementary feeding, with the aim of reaching Millennium Development Goals to reduce child and under-five mortality.

These efforts also are also for achieving the national goal of the National Health Strategy 2018-2022, which aims to "increase by 15% the level of exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life, and as part of the Ministry's continuous efforts to promote awareness among the various segments of society in the State of Qatar on adopting healthy lifestyles, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and to achieve the goals of the National Plan of Action for Nutrition and Physical Activity 2017-2022.
