Qatar ranks 15th in the world in handling COVID-19 pandemic: Der Spiegel

German magazine 'Der Spiegel' has compared data from 154 countries worldwide with over 500,000 inhabitants to rank Qatar 15th in the list of countries to have one of the best responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. Qatar is the only Arab country in the top 15.

According to John Hopkins University so far, more than four million people worldwide have died because of or with the virus. The magazine's ranking was determined by a number of factors that include excess mortality, the progress of vaccinations, and the number of restrictions on people. (RTL Today)

Finland ranked first followed by Luxembourg, Norway ranking second and third respectively.

As of 26 June 2021, more than 3 million vaccine doses have been administered in National COVID-19 Vaccination Program according to the Ministry of Public Health. Since the start of the program:

  • 71.3% of the eligible population have received at least one dose.
  • 58.2% of the eligible population have received both doses.
  • 90.3% of people over 40 years of age have received at least one dose.
