HMC launches renovation program at Al Khor hospital

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has announced the launch of an 18-month renovation program for the Al Khor Hospital as part of efforts to expand its facilities to improve patients' experience, reduce waiting times and hospital stay, and improve access to specialized medical services for residents of and around Al Khor.

Since its opening in 2005, Al Khor Hospital has been providing general medicine, surgery, emergency care, pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics with a capacity of 115 beds to serve the population of the northern region of the country.

Al Khor Hospital has witnessed an increase in its activity in recent years. The number of appointments in outpatient clinics reached 93,000 in 2018, in addition to more than 220,000 visits to emergencies in the same year. Hamad Medical Corporation said that construction work at Al Khor Hospital, which began last month, will contribute to increasing the hospital's capacity to provide services to the growing number of visitors during the current and future periods.

Al Khor Hospital's Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Al Jusaiman who is also Deputy Chief of HMC's General Hospitals Group said the expansion is part of Hamad Medical Corporation's comprehensive expansion program, which aims to enhance patient experience. The expansion will accelerate the process of obtaining high-quality specialist services from the hospital.

Al-Jusaiman said in a press statement that the construction work in the hospital will continue until December 2020 and will witness significant improvements to a number of service areas such as intensive care unit, emergency department, pharmacy, maternity rooms, clinical imaging departments and food and reception services.

The expansion also includes the establishment of a national diabetes center, a physiotherapy center, an expansion of dental services, an expansion of the emergency intensive care unit, a short-term care unit, a dialysis unit and a children's emergency center.

Mohammed Al Jusaiman said that The National Diabetes Center, which will be established, will provide specialized services for more patients suffering from diabetes through the center that will be located in their area and will contribute to reducing waiting times for patients. This will reduce waiting times by establishing the new priority system and adding more From the family for evaluation and treatment.

The expansion plan at Al Khor Hospital is aimed at improving the quality of care services provided by residents of Al Khor and surrounding areas.
