The state-run Zakat Fund has announced that it will begin distributing meat to 1,500 needy families around Qatar from next week. The “Ramadan Livestock” will be distributed through Mawashi Company, which will be providing the livestock, and distributing them throughout Al Meera supermarkets around Qatar, where the needy families can exchange coupons given to them for the meat. “Ramadan Livestock” is being held for the fifth year, after it was introduced in 2005, and will come at a total cost of QR20 m. The head of the project at the Zakat Fund Ahmad Sultan Al Misaifri said during a press meeting “This is the fifth year we hold this project, which has been a successful endeavor over the past years”. Al Misaifri added: “we are currently ready to receive cases of needy families, who have not already been listed in our database, given they provide the necessary documents showing their financial circumstances, and balance accounts, as well as to have an interview with the social research department in the fund”. The Zakat Fund has been organising with other charitable organisations in Qatar to coordinate their activities during the holy month of Ramadan, so that assistance can be equally spread to needy families and so there can be no duality in benefits and services in the same areas. Al Misaifri added that there will be other projects the fund will be introducing during the month of Ramadan, such as the “Al Fitr Zakat” where aid in the form of coupons for food and commodities will be handed during the last ten days of the month. Projects whereby the fund will hand out financial aid are also expected, like the “Eid Clothing” project, and well as the “Eidiya” project, during the final days of Ramadan. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=August2009&file=Local_News20090820231939.xml
