World Read Aloud Day commemmorated in Qatar

Doha March 28 – Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing and Qatar National Library have organized a visit to the Library of Awsaj Academy, during readings aloud to a number of books in Arabic and English were performed in front of 60 pupils. The World Day of reading aloud is an initiative of the Organization of LitWorld, which supports the right of every child to education, and contribute to raising literacy rates worldwide, where 65 countries from around the world celebrate the day, including Qatar, in March 6 of each year by organizing festivals and campaigns for public reading and reading aloud. World Read Aloud Day is about taking action to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to all people. World Read Aloud Day motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another, and creates a community of readers advocating for every childs right to a safe education and access to books and technology. For her part, Lana Shamma, Acting Head of writing and reading development of Bloomsbury House – Qatar Foundation Publishing said participation in this event aims to increase children’s passion for reading, where students enjoy reading in groups, away from the school. She added in a statement by Bloomsbury today that participation in the celebration of the World read aloud highlights Qatar keenness on the development of reading and strengthen it in children.
