World-Cup-2022-should-be-moved-from-Qatar-believes-EPL-Chief-Richard-Scudamore
Richard Scudamore, Chief executive of England’s Premier League, has told FIFA that the World Cup in 2022 must be moved from Qatar if they cannot accommodate for a summer tournament. There have been ongoing concerns regarding the summer heat in the Gulf, ever since Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 World Cup. Sepp Blatter, FIFA president had hinted that the prospect of a winter tournament was being considered. Chairman of the English FA Greg Dyke has also called for the event to be staged in the cooler winter months. Qatar has promised to deliver a solar-powered cooling system inside the stadiums to counter the summer heat. But there remains the issue of contending with the climate once outside, particularly for the thousands of fans expected to descend on the country. A winter World Cup is the most likely solution to combat the heat, said Jim Boyce, FIFA vice-president recently. The heads of Europe’s major leagues have also voiced their disapproval of moving the World Cup to a time that would significantly disrupt their domestic seasons. Source:Qatar Chronicle
