The Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior (MOI) in collaboration with Human Rights Office of the Ministry of Foreign affairs and UN Human Rights Commission is organising a training workshop with the theme ‘Preventing torture is a respect to human dignity and promotion of human rights’. The four-day even entitled ‘The Criminalization and Prevention of Torture in Light of the Convention against Torture and its Protocol’ opened at the Diplomatic Club here yesterday. The event brought together officials from MOI, Public Prosecution as well as other stakeholders whose work relates on the implementation of the Optional Protocol to UN Convention against Torture (OPCAT). The workshop aimed at offering an opportunity for Qatari experts to discuss the latest trends and jurisprudence in international human rights and to provide models of how full incorporation of the treaty’s definition of torture could be achieved.
