Women within the construction industry are being celebrated by the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8th.
As part of the initiative a new micro site has been set up to allow people to register for a conference with the theme ‘Women and the Sustainable Built Environment: Qatar Prospects’.
With keynote speakers such as Kathryn Findlay, Holley Chant, Dr Rania Khalil, Paula Boast and Dr Anna Grichting, the conference aims to celebrate women’s growing influence on the building industry in Qatar and the nation’s ever-developing infrastructure.
Topics up for discussion include Meaningful Change: Opportunities for Leadership and Sustainability Excellence in Qatar, Planning & Improving the Quality of the Urban Environment and Ecological Architecture.
Mohamed Jaber, head of Education Committee, QGBC commented, “We are extremely grateful to the organizations collaborating with us in bringing to Qatar inspirational figures like Kathryn Findlay who have left an indelible mark on how architecture is conceived globally. We are sure that our host of speakers will inspire more women to join the engineering and design streams and be part of building Qatar’s future sustainably.”
He added that the council aims to foster an environment where the “conversation of sustainability grows to envelop the entire engineering community” and it is this diversity which will help boost Qatar National Vision 2030.
The conference aims to attract women from all levels of the construction industry, from architects to Design professionals, construction consultants, commissioning bodies and students.
It will be held at the Qatar Foundation Student Center, Education City, in Doha in collaboration with Qatar University, NAWIC, and the Royal Institute of British Architects-Gulf Chapter.
