DOHA: An old Qatari woman was found dead in mysterious circumstances in her house in downtown Doha early on Saturday morning. Her body was found lying in a pool of blood on the floor raising suspicions that she might have been killed in cold blood by burglars. The deceased suffered severe injuries in her head and her driver called in the police using 999 at around 4am on Saturday raising alarm about two expatriates who, he said, had broken into the house. The 82-year-woman had a maid, besides the driver, at home in New Salata and she screamed when she suddenly sighted the burglars and called the driver, local Arabic daily Al Raya reported yesterday. The driver apparently got up from sleep and rang the emergency number 999 for help. However, when policemen reached there, they found the woman lying on the floor dead with blood oozing from her head. The maid told the police that two burglars had barged into the house at around 3.40am and had hit the deceased with an iron rod in the head which led to her death. Soon, sleuths from an apex crime investigation agency of the interior ministry, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and the Capital Police arrived along with forensic experts. The experts ran a thorough check of the scene of the crime and collected blood samples and finger prints. The maid and the driver have been taken into custody for questioning and to find out if they had any role in the crime. A team of investigators is carrying out a probe and forensic report is being awaited as that would pinpoint if the woman died after being hit in the head or fell down and suffered injuries in her skull. Local Arabic Al Sharq, meanwhile, reported yesterday that when law-enforcement officials arrived they found the deceased’s home ransacked, hinting that the crime might have been a handiwork of burglars.
