If you’ve meandered down to the Qanat Quartier beach at The Pearl-Qatar recently, you’ve probably noticed the rainbow road of brightly-coloured shipping containers that have taken over the waterfront. This pop-up village is all part of the ongoing Box Festival Doha, running until January 1, 2017 – the first of its kind shopping experience in Doha where local vendors, shops, and cafés can share their products with local shoppers.

ILQ went down to check it out one sunny afternoon and we put together a short video so our readers can virtually sample the Box Festival’s wares and then head over to check it out for themselves. Each container, or ‘box’, plays host to a different vendor and product – from authentic Arab souq items, clothing retailers, and local honey merchants, to sweet treats and food shacks set up on the beach, it’s a fresh take on Qatar’s national past-time of shopping.

From local coffee shops set up on the beach to, pop-up waffle stands, and even a mobile Johnny Rocket’s canteen, there’s no shortage of ways to slake your appetite after shopping up a storm. There’s even a 1,200 square-metre children’s play-zone where the little ones can blow off some steam while parents are lightening their pocketbooks.
