Globally, various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day events in more than 193 countries are now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network.
Today's commemoration is also considered the 'World's Largest Environmental Movement.'
Here's the story behind this colorful click by the same author of this article (@sonkiebagongfirs):
Taken from Colour Run Manila barely two years ago, it's quite amusing to know that such public event also has room for 'unregistered' participants who want nothing but genial bestrews of colored sand to celebrate their interim juvenility.
In the sea of neon-soaked slobs, this boy of apparent impoverished origin caught not only my attention but also the lens of my camera phone. I remember him begging for more color packets as I seek for the perfect elevation to achieve a bird's eye view.
Coming to terms with his condition, I was able to come up with this shot, far from perfect but still materializing my initial purpose of making a striking representation out of him.
And since Earth Day is being celebrated globally today I'd like to let my co-denizens to become more aware of the many consequences that can occur if they -- not all -- will pursue to lambaste our planet's undying fidelity of keeping us a secure home.
A recent study by the US Environmental Protection Agency paints a picture of an Earth that is warmer than it has been in about 120,000 years, and is locked into eventually hitting its hottest mark in more than 2 million years. With the link to carbon dioxide levels (as discussed by US President @barackobama and @leonardodicaprio during a recent Climate Change talk in the White House) and taking into account other factors and past trends, the researchers calculated how much warming can be expected in the future.
Sounds terrifying?
Just look at all the pinkish and purplish granules attempting to contaminate this blue-green boy. He cannot do anything but we, as benefiting inhabitants, can do something.
It's never too late.
The theme of this year's Earth Day observance is to root out plastic pollution, which we tackled more on a separate article.
