Those who are caught spitting on roads and other public places will face a fine of QR500, warns the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning. The Ministry has launched a campaign to create awareness among the public about the issue. Hoardings have been erected across the city that carry warnings about the health hazards of spitting as well as the punishment for violating the rule. The colourfully illustrated hoardings on major highways carry the message, “spitting spreads germs,” in English and Arabic. There had been reports about stiff penalties being imposed for spitting in public places and the Ministry has now moved in to curb this unhealthy practice. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=February2009&file=Local_News2009020241944.xml
