Vodafone Qatar and United Development Company (UDC) yesterday announced a unique partnership that will see Vodafone provide total communication solutions to the man-made island The Pearl-Qatar. This partnership utilises UDC’s already deployed state-of-the-art infrastructure as well as Vodafone’s network at The Pearl-Qatar. “UDC has deployed at The Pearl-Qatar The Next Generation Access (NGA) infrastructure that exceeds international standards, this is a more robust and scalable solution than other Fibre To The Home (FTTH) solutions that caters for future needs too,” said Khalil Sholy, UDC managing director and president. As a “smart island” UDC designed the Pearl-Qatar with the-state-of-the-art network infrastructure using the latest Metro Ethernet solutions and most advanced leading point to point topology. This partnership will result in basic telecommunication needs being met and a network infrastructure which offers label switching based VPN services for business establishments as well as high bandwidth providing unprecedented connectivity speed for business users. Vodafone will also deliver high-quality indoor mobile voice and broadband coverage to all buildings on The Pearl - Qatar. In keeping with Vodafone’s commercial and environmental principles—eliminating duplication to reduce both the cost and the environmental impact of telecommunications networks—this equipment is designed to allow the sharing of services with Qtel. “This is an incredibly exciting partnership for Vodafone,” said Vodafone Qatar’s CEO, Grahame Maher. “We’re thrilled that The Pearl-Qatar’s occupants will be the first people in Qatar to have the opportunity to use Vodafone for their total communications. This is an important step in our journey to make a world of difference for all the people in Qatar,” Maher said. “Today we have witnessed the creation of a unique partnership between UDC, as master developer of The Pearl-Qatar, and local communications giant Vodafone Qatar. This partnership is very much in line with the vision of His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for Qatar’s National Vision 2030 to introduce to Qatar a world class infrastructure in communication,” said Khalil Sholy. The companies are working closely together to ensure that the roll-out occurs as early as possible. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=April2010&file=Local_News2010042923829.xml
