Vodafone Qatar has signed a QAR125 million ($34.5 million) agreement with Meeza, a newly established IT services company.
Under the agreement, Meeza, which is a joint venture with the Qatar Foundation, will provide “end-to-end turnkey IT infrastructure solutions” to support Vodafone Qatar’s planned core and wireless network operations, according to Rashid Al-Naimi, chairman of Meeza.
“We at Meeza are thrilled to be announcing this major agreement with Vodafone on our first day of operations,” Al-Naimi said. “This is an example of how MEEZA will deliver IT services and solutions to enable the success of our clients and, thereby, contribute to the continued growth and development of the State of Qatar.”
Vodafone Qatar was awarded Qatar’s second mobile licence by ictQATAR in June for QAR7.7 billion, and is expected to launch mobile services in March 2009. Vodafone Qatar also won the licence for country’s second fixed line licence in September 2008.
