This week Vodafone Qatar confirmed its partnership with the Al Sarya Group for the development of Vodafone’s highly anticipated mobile cash and international remittance service, Vodafone Money Transfer. “The potential for this service is huge for Qatar and the region,” said Ahmed Alhashemi, President of the Al Sarya Group, a member of the Alhashemi Group. “It will be great for Qatar, Vodafone, and Al Sarya.” “We’ve joined with a key partner for Vodafone Money Transfer, which is a global initiative for Vodafone in Qatar,” said Vodafone CEO Grahame Maher. To commemorate the occasion, Vodafone Qatar CEO Grahame Maher met personally to confirm the partnership with the President of Al Sarya Group Ahmed Al-Hashemi. Al Sarya Group CEO Khaldoun Bazzari and Vodafone Product Manager Luke Longney were also present. “I’ve dreamt for a long time that one day we can leave the house with only our mobile to pay for everything – from gas, to food, shopping, banking, and more,” said Bazzari. “This is now one step closer to becoming a reality.” “This partnership is one of the key commercial steps in developing this service,” said Longney. “We’re continuing to finalize our relationships with financial service partners and we’ll be able to proceed with a commercial pilot later this year.” Vodafone Money Transfer is a groundbreaking service under development at Vodafone Qatar, which was first announced by Vodafone Group CEO Vittorio Colao in November 2009. A combination international remittance and mobile cash service, Vodafone Money Transfer will allow customers to transfer funds between mobile phones, as well as to send money from their mobile phone to individuals and bank accounts in selected countries abroad. The service is anticipated to be available to consumers in October 2010. “Vodafone Qatar, supported by Vodafone worldwide, provides the latest technologies in mobile services” said Ahmed Alhashemi. “We are very happy to work with Vodafone in this project and other projects in the future.” Maher added: “In addition to the Qatari government and the Qatar Foundation, Vodafone is committed to partnering with local Qatari businesses like Al Sarya to develop solutions that can be implemented across Qatar, across the region, and across the world.” ILQ News
