FYI, ILQ is proud to mention that we were the FIRST source in Qatar to mention this two days ago.,2367,2390#msg-2390 The country's second mobile operator, Vodafone, which should start services from the first quarter of next year, could well kick off operations here with the new Apple iPhone 3G. The Apple iPhone 3G, which was unveiled on Monday in the US, is already the talk of the town and the world at large. The Apple website has announced the iPhone 3G will be coming to Qatar and will be available in Vodafone locations across the country. However, when the phone does finally make its way here, it is expected to be a big hit, provided technology does not pass it by. The Apple website says: "iPhone is available at Vodafone locations across Qatar. Which means there's probably one near you." Interestingly, when clicking to a list of countries where Vodafone has a presence, Qatar is yet to make an appearance. The phone will be available in 22 countries from July 11 and by the end of the year, a further 70 countries will be added to the list. No country from the Middle East is on the original list of 22 although Qatar, Jordan and Egypt are shown in a second list of 48 countries mentioned in the ‘coming soon’ portion of the website which lists availability of the devices. A footnote, however, cautions country availability and rollout schedule is subject to change. Prices will be the same globally at $199 for the 8GB version and $299 for the 16GB version. However, the price does not include the cost of the SIM card and a contract may have to be entered into with service providers, which could well be expensive. The new-generation phone offers fast 3G wireless technology, GPS mapping and support for enterprise features. The phone also offers Wi-Fi capability among other distinctive features. The Pen
