Vodafone will auction off the reservation rights to 40 of “their most desirable numbers – star numbers” when they turn on their network on March 1. The auction, which will be at the Sharq Village and Spa, will start at 7pm.
The number 7000001 will be the first Vodafone number to be auctioned off during the event. Other star numbers include 7878787, 7111117, 7888887, 7111111, 7999999 and 7272727. A list of all the star numbers to be auctioned is listed on Vodafone’s website.
Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton chose the number 7771777. The successful bidder will reserve this star number and will meet Hamilton in person at the Grand Prix event in April. Courtesy of Vodafone, the Grand Prix experience will include a full weekend of VIP hospitality and entertainment, as well as access to the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes VIP Club, with the best seats in the house.
According to a Vodafone spokesperson, only 500 tickets are available for the event. Tickets, which will be sold starting today, will cost QR2,000. The auction will be conducted by Sotheby’s and proceeds from the event will go to Reach Out to Asia. Vodafone will announce shortly the full range of available numbers and how to reserve them.
