Qatar University has hosted a group of visitors from Chita City, Aichi, Japan as part of QU’s mission to strengthen exchanges with the Japanese population. QU’s Japanese Club, in conjunction with the International Affairs Programme, organised the visit so that QU students could appreciate Japanese culture. The visiting delegation demonstrated Japanese calligraphy and presented the QU students with traditional fans with their names in Japanese. The students introduced a variety of Qatari traditional customs, clothes and food items to their guests in addition to a tour of their campus. “Such events are new learning experiences for our students,” IAP head Dr Amira Sonbol said. Japanese Club advisor and QU Lecturer of English Matthew Vetrini added that there was a lot of enthusiasm and friendship. Chita City is the sister city of Doha, and is an outlying suburb of Nagoya, home of Toyota. Relations between the two cities began in 2005 when the Japanese city hosted a Qatari delegation at the Aichi World Exposition. QU later hosted a 16-strong delegation from Chita City in 2007. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=279867&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
