A group of University of Calgary – Qatar (UCQ ) students has organised a special registration and presentation about a breast cancer awareness event ‘Walk of Life’ to be organised by Think Pink Qatar on October 30. Think Pink Qatar (TPQ), an association dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer, will use the awareness to aid in the prevention, early detection and treatment of breast cancer. An associate professor Dr Tam Donnelly, who has done extensive research on breast cancer said: “Breast cancer can be prevented through physical exercise, breastfeeding and a healthy diet.” Dr Donnelly added that the news of breast cancer survivors should be seen as a positive sign in the efforts to beat cancer and increase the survival rate. TPQ volunteer Marja Alexander said early detection was the best preventive measure, which can only be guaranteed from regular self-examination. “Breast cancer is ever-increasing and has become a serious problem everywhere and we are hoping to raise awareness and try to stop or at least slow the spread of the awful disease,” nursing student and event organising committee member Yassmin Hussein said. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=322165&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
