U.S. Embassy in Qatar warns of education scams in the form of scholarships & training programs in the United States

The embassy of the United States in Qatar issued a statement on 15 August 2023 warning of education scams that are being executed in the form of educational opportunities, scholarships & training programs in the United States.

The statement also mentioned that residents of Qatar should refrain from sharing personal or financial information in response to unsolicited calls, texts, social media messages, or emails.

Additionally, the embassy urged individuals wishing to pursue their education in the United States to rely on the U.S. Embassy for reliable information with regard to educational opportunities and university applications.

The U.S. Embassy confirmed that they offer the following education services free of charge:

  • Accurate Information: The embassy offers accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date information about opportunities to study at accredited postsecondary institutions in the United States.
  • Free Information: The embassy confirmed that they will never request payment or ask to provide banking/personal information to access educational resources.
  • Direct Contact: You can directly contact the embassy for any educational information

The U.S. Embassy advised the following if you have been a victim of any such scams:

  • Avoid sending any money
  • End any communication you may be having with a suspected scammer, inform Qatar’s Ministry of Interior via the Metrash 2 app, and notify the U.S. Embassy by emailing [email protected]
  • Inform administrators of any specific website or social media that you suspect the scam to have originated from
