Unfortunate death four year old child school bus

[UPDATE 13 September 2022] The Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced via a tweet on 13 September 2022 that they have decided to close the kindergarten that the child who passed away was going to.

As per the ministry, the investigation they carried out proved that it was the negligence of the staff that led to the tragic death of the child; therefore, severe punishments have been imposed.

Additionally, the ministry stresses its commitment to ensuring students are safe and secure across educational institutes.

[11 September 2022] The Peninsula newspaper reported on 11 September 2022 the tragic and unfortunate death of a four-year-old girl who passed away in a school bus.

As per the report, the child fell asleep in the bus on the way to school and was left behind when other children got off at the school. The child's presence was not noticed by the school staff, who locked and parked the bus outdoors.

Upon resuming duty at 11:30 am the staff noticed the child in the bus. As per The Peninsula’s report the school staff immediately rushed the child to the hospital. Sadly the child had passed away and could not be revived.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education also shared their condolences and mourned the death of the child via a tweet on 11 September 2022:

The ministry further stated that an investigation will be carried out regarding the incident and strict action will be taken against those responsible.

The ministry's statement was as follows, "The Ministry, as well as the respective authorities will take the necessary measures as well as the maximum punishment against the aggressors with regards to regulations and according to the results of the ongoing investigation."
They further emphasized their objective to ensure the safety of children by saying "The ministry also affirms its keenness to adhere to the highest quality of security and safety standards for its students, and will not tolerate any shortcomings in this regard."
