The newly developed underpass and a roundabout on the under construction Ras Abu Aboud road project have been thrown open to traffic. The roundabout, developed near the Naval Base; and the almost one kilo metre-long underpass that leads to the upcoming New Doha International Airport (NDIA), will largely benefit the people commuting between Wakra and West Bay area. The new Ras Abu Aboud road is the main road that would be linking the proposed New Doha International Airport (NDIA).The road is expected to be fully open in the coming months. Once, the project works complete, Ras Abu Aboud will emerge as the main road leading to the new airport. The nearly 10km stretch is being developed on a world-class standard. The road is one of the key projects of the proposed NDIA. The new international airport has also envisaged setting up three road interchanges to access the airport from Ras Abu Aboud Road. The infrastructure development works linked to the NDIA has changed the very landscape of the surrounding Old Salata area. Several old and traditional buildings in the way had given way to the new projects in the area. Two major landmarks of the area, including Qatar’s first star hotel, had given way to the development works last year. As part of its road project, The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has developed an alternative road linking Ras Abu Aboud Road and West Bay. The flyover project linking Old Salata road and the Ras Abu Aboud road is fast progressing. Ashghal has already launched at least 39 road projects to link various parts of the country, which would be completed before 2012. This is in addition to 19 road project which have already been launched by a couple of years ago. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=September2009&file=Local_News2009092304256.xml
