United Development Company (UDC) were crowned champions at the first-ever QSports League’s six-a-side football tournament on Friday. For the past few weeks, 18 corporate and individual teams participated in the inaugural QSports Leagues indoor football leagues sponsored by Fitness First and supported by the Qatar Olympic Committee. On Friday, the top two teams from each league played each other in semi-finals, third place play off and the grand QSports final. UDC and 80th Stars faced each other in the final having beaten Squadra and the Spartans in the semi-final matches. The final was a close fought match with both teams showing great moments of skill. UDC scored first and began to control the game but 80th Stars struck back to level the score at 1-1 before half time. The second half was very cagey with both teams striking the goal posts and having close chances but not being able to find the elusive winning goal. At full time the teams were still tied and it went to a penalty shoot-out to decide the winners. UDC converted their spot-kicks and were crowned QSports Champions with the final score at 3-1. Prizes and trophies were presented by Qatar Olympic Committee officials and league sponsors, Fitness First. Special prizes were awarded to Fabian of HDC for Best Sportsmanship, Omar Barhoumi for Best Young Talent, Yousef of UDC for Best Goalkeeper, and Samaan of 80th Stars for Top Goal Scorer. QSports Leagues was officially launched on June 3 with the first game of its inaugural six-a-side Indoor Football Leagues. QSports Leagues is a new and first of its kind platform for sports enthusiasts in Qatar. QSports Founder Ghanim al-Mohannadi said: “QSports Leagues is not only an excellent opportunity to play sports socially and get fit but it brings together teams and individuals from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
