Two Qatari children ‘missing’ in Makkah located in Al Qaseem Web posted at: 7/30/2009 1:44:29 Source ::: THE PENINSULA DOHA: The two Qatari children who had gone missing in Makkah on June 7 have been found, their father said on Tuesday. The children, a seven-year-old boy (Jassem) and his sister Reem (8), were with their mother when they are said to have disappeared. However, their father called up Al Sharq daily on Tuesday saying that he had been informed by the Saudi authorities that they had traced the two children in Al Qaseem area of the country and that they were staying with their maternal aunt. The children’s mother is divorced and is apparently involved in a tug of war with her former husband (the father of the children) over the issue of their custody. He became suspect of her intentions when she returned from Makkah after June 7 and told him that the children had gone missing. Taking the line that if the children had actually gone missing, she should have filed a complaint with the Saudi authorities rather than coming to Doha to inform him, the father told Qatari officials of the development. She was questioned by the authorities here and controversy erupted after which the matter was eventually taken to the Saudi authorities who succeeded in tracing the children. Their jubilant father told Al Sharq he was immediately leaving for Saudi Arabia to take the children back. The divorced couple had even earlier approached the Family Counselling Centre here to seek help in resolving the issue of the children’s custody. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=July2009&file=Local_News2009073014429.xml
