Institut français du Qatar announced via a tweet on 26 September 2022 that two football fans are cycling to Qatar from Paris to attend the World Cup 2022.

The fans are 26-year-olds, Mehdi from Caen and Gabriel from Bordeaux; they began their journey on 20 August 2022.
They have challenged themselves to pedal 8,000 kilometres with only panniers and two tents to accompany their journey.
Mehdi and Gabriel will be crossing ten countries to reach Qatar in time to enjoy the World Cup festivities. So far, they have crossed France, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, and Bulgaria and have reached Turkey as of 26 September 2022.
