This one is very interesting, and it raises the question why the right precautions were not put in place and lessons were not learned.

Fire damages restaurant in mall
A RESTAURANT at the Villaggio Mall suffered damage after a fire broke out in the food court of the shopping complex yesterday afternoon, eyewitnesses said.
The fire was noticed at 4.55pm. However, no casualties were reported.
Sources said the staff of the one of the restaurants near Gate No.4 at first tried to control the fire but informed the civil defence when they failed.
Ten fire tenders arrived at the scene and put out the blaze.
Civil Defence personnel from the Aziziyah, Wadi Al Sail and Industrial Area stations took part in the operation.
By the time the firemen arrived, the blaze had spread to another restaurant. However, they were able to prevent the fire spreading to other areas.
A woman at the scene said she saw the staff members of a restaurant standing outside the outlet as if they were not facing any apparent problem.
“After a few minutes I saw the lights switched off in a nearby restaurant amid shouts of workers who said the fire was getting out of control.
“They asked the people to leave the place and within moments everybody wanted to get out with people pushing each other.
“I picked up one of the kids and rushed to the emergency exit.”
According to another witness, the mall was full at the time of the incident and it was good for all that the crowd did not stampede.
She also said she could not hear any fire alarm.

Blaze at Villagio Mall causes panic among customers
DOHA • A fire that broke out at Villagio Mall caused panic among the customers yesterday. The minor fire was detected around 4pm, near the newly developed Gondola canal, eye witnesses said.
However, before spreading it to other parts, the employees and the security staff put it out immediately.
"The fire broke out around 4pm. It was immediately put out", security officials at the Mall told The Peninsula.
"It was a minor one and we put out the blaze immediately. There was no need to sound an alarm or evacuate customers", they said.
The security officials refused to give the details. Senior management staff were not available for a comment.
During the last three weeks, this is the second time that fire breaks out at this up market shopping mall.
A fire that had broken out at a food court in the Mall on December 19 had caused damage to the Mall. Then, ten fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire. By the time the firemen had arrived, the blaze had spread to a neighbouring restaurant. However, the workers at the mall and security officials had managed to control the fire before spreading to other areas.
