As part of Katara Ramadan Festival’s many activities and attractions, the cultural village announced the launch of its Ramadan Cannon Competition. The competition, aimed at children, provides a fun and interactive way for visitors to learn about the holy month and a chance for three lucky participants to win a valuable prize at the end of the month. Running until August 24, the Cannon (located between buildings 12 and 16) will fire hundreds of candy parachutes with Ramadan-related factoids attached on small Katara-branded strips of paper at 10pm daily. The more strips the children collect and keep over the course of the month, the greater their chance is at winning the Ramadan Canon Competition. “Katara is always seeking new and interesting ways to engage its visitors with the country’s culture, arts and heritage. On the occasion of the Holy month of Ramadan, we are very proud to present this modernised version of a longstanding Ramadan tradition – the Cannon - and a fun opportunity to learn about the Islamic religion’s prophets and teachings,” said Malika AlShraim, Public Relations Manager at Katara. Interested participants are requested to gather at Al Misk tent at 9pm on August 25 where there will be a fact-strip counting ceremony. The three participants with the highest number of fact-strips will then be presented with their gifts. The Ramadan Cannon Competition is part of Katara’s first-ever Ramadan Festival. Hosted in three tents on the beachfront Esplanade, the Festival showcases a number of Qatari traditions and offers a variety of interactive cultural and arts workshops for its visitors. Festival tents Al Oud, Al Misk and Al Rayhan are open daily from 8pm to midnight. http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=611:cannon-contest-at-katara&catid=1:news&Itemid=1
