Traffic on the Dukhan Expressway between Bani Hajer roundabout and the interchange near the entrance to Al Wajba Place is to be diverted to facilitate work on the Dukhan Expressway (East) project.
An Ashghal (Public Works Authority) statement said the authority assessed the use of the road before developing alternative routes to reduce the impact of diversions on motorists using the expressway.
The authority said the work would be implemented in two stages. The works to be carried out on the stretch of the expressway include excavations and digging for several kilometres.
During the diversion, four signalised junctions will be used to control the traffic. The move is also designed to enhance the safety of motorists using alternative roads.
Stage 1 of the works will start in the early hours of Friday (March 27). It includes the closure of a 1600-metre two-lane stretch between Bani Hajer roundabout and the interchange near the entrance to Al Wajba Palace. A three-lane alternative road north of the expressway will help ease traffic between the two locations. (See map).
Stage 2 of the project will commence in the middle of next month.
The Dukhan Expressway (East) project, an integral part of Ashghal’s ambitious Expressway Programme, also involves the construction of an approximately 10km dual carriageway consisting of four lanes in each direction with service roads and auxiliary roads along sections of the road.
