Traffic crazy - schools reopen The reopening of schools along with closure of several roads due to construction and infrastructure works has placed tremendous pressure on the already-congested roads of the city. This has raised concerns among parents who have to drop their children at school and then make it to work on time. Several nationals and residents said excavation work on roads leading to educational institutions is bringing grief to parents. Despite the Public Works Authority's (Ashghal) announcements it would complete all major road projects before schools open, this has not been the case. One parent, Abdullah Al Kaabi, told Al Sharq the delay in execution of road projects has had a cascading effect on other works being carried out. "We are not anti-progress, but the undue delay of road projects and related road closures are making students late for school and parents late for work." He urged the concerned authorities to take punitive action against companies which failed to make work deadlines. J Pal said if he had become used to taking a certain route to his destination, within a matter of days he would find the same road closed without notice. With the reopening of schools, authorities should notify the public before closure of any road so parents can explore other options, he said. Ashghal officials have announced the construction of the Industrial Area intersection is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
