The elite of the film industry may soon be making its way here full force to attend the launch of the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) from October 29 to November 1 – one of them may include celebrated actor Robert de Niro. “We cannot confirm yet who are coming but we are definitely inviting international filmmakers, actors and actresses… and we are definitely inviting Robert de Niro… He is very committed to this… very committed,” said Amanda Palmer, head of entertainment for Al Jazeera English and has been named Executive Director of the DTFF. De Niro, who co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival (TFF) with Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, signed an agreement last year with H E Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums Authority (QMA), to launch the next edition of New York’s world-renowned TFF here. “Preparing for this festival is like making a surprise party… Filmmakers will definitely want to see the audience’s reactions firsthand… and we want the audience to meet filmmakers,” Palmer said. The festival will include a wide range of programming, from outdoor screenings to movies for children and family films, from documentaries to new Hollywood releases and from independent films to showcases of the very best works by Arab filmmakers, she said. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=August2009&file=Local_News2009081221413.xml
