Local souqs and hypermarkets yesterday witnessed a heavy rush of shoppers ahead of the Eid festival. The food and clothes sections of outlets received the largest number of visitors, industry sources said. Tomorrow (Sunday) will be the first day of Eid al-Fitr in Qatar. The Crescent Sighting Committee at Qatar’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Religious Affairs yesterday announced that today would be the 30th and final day of the holy month of Ramadan and tomorrow would be the beginning of Shawwall , the 10th month of the Islamic calendar, and the first day of Eid al-Fitr. Many other countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Yemen, also announced a Sunday start to the Eid festival. Gulf Times
