With tickets sold out, the opening event of the first-ever ‘TEDxSummit: The Power of x’ tonight is expected to fill the 5,000-seater Katara Amphitheatre with audience from Doha and the region including more than 600 TEDx organisers from around the world. TEDxSummit features workshops, collaborative projects, regional and cross-regional brainstorming, talks, special events and cultural activities. But the opening night is much awaited by people to listen to speakers from the Arab world and beyond discussing ideas that educate and inspire. Titled “The Power of Reframing”, tonight’s opening event highlights opening remarks by Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, an avid entrepreneur, photographer and adventure traveller with a passion for mountain climbing to raise awareness for charity initiatives. Sheikh Mohammed will be joined by compatriot Fahad bin Mohammed Al Attiya, currently the Chairman of the Qatar National Food Security Programme, who is one of the ten speakers featured at the opening night. Under his leadership, the QNFSP is developing a master plan which, upon implementation, will become a model for sustainable, environmentally friendly agriculture in arid regions. The speakers include Jordanian singer Zain Awad, Iranian-American comedian Maz Jobrani, physicist Wolfgang Kessling, Indian artist Raghava KK, curator William Noel, scientist Nesrim and popular TED speaker Hans Rosling.
